A LITTLE ENERGY KNOW-HOW

Home EV charging cost calculator

Estimate home electric vehicle charging costs from driving distance, vehicle efficiency and charging losses.

Choose whether your efficiency figure describes battery energy or energy measured at the wall. Apply a charging efficiency below 100% only when losses are not already included.

1,000 miles × 30 kWh/100 miles ÷ 90% = 333.33 kWh from the wall; at $0.20/kWh, about $66.67.

Worked example

1,000 miles × 30 kWh/100 miles ÷ 90% = 333.33 kWh from the wall; at $0.20/kWh, about $66.67.

Calculation and limits

Miles × kWh per 100 miles ÷ 100 ÷ charging efficiency × electricity rate. Defaults are illustrative assumptions, not fleet averages. Excludes public charging fees and changes to home fixed charges.

Change one assumption at a time to see how it affects the result. No calculation sends your inputs to a remote service or requires an account.
