Privacy & advertising

Updated September 21, 2026

This notice describes the current wattya.com website, a public energy information service.

Your choices, on your device

Your selected grid, ZIP code and electricity-price state can be saved in this browser using local storage. There is no wattya account. Use “Forget my choices” on the homepage, or clear this site's browser data, to remove saved preferences. Different browsers keep separate choices.

Data lookups and hosting

When you request local information, your ZIP code is sent to our hosted functions and relevant public-data services, including the U.S. Census Bureau and OpenEI. Solar estimates use the selected model inputs and location with NLR services. Public electricity and price reports come from EIA, MISO and NYISO. Public energy report archives contain source observations, not a history of individual visitors' selections.

Netlify hosts the website and functions. Network requests necessarily include technical information such as IP address, requested URL, browser information and timestamps; service providers may process logs for delivery, reliability and security. This site does not specify a guaranteed retention period for providers' operational logs. Avoid submitting sensitive personal information.

Google advertising

We use Google AdSense to support this service. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites on the Internet. Availability of ads depends on Google approval and ad demand.

You can manage personalized advertising through Google My Ad Center, and learn how Google uses information from partner sites. Other participating vendors' choices are available through industry opt-out tools. Where a consent message is shown, use its options to accept, decline or manage advertising purposes and vendors. Browser controls can also limit cookies. Declining personalization does not necessarily remove all ads.

External services

Links to data providers and other websites are governed by their own privacy notices. wattya does not control those websites. We may update this notice when the service changes; the update date appears above.

About the information

wattya presents public energy observations with their reporting times. Animated transfers are illustrations of reported direction, not instant telemetry. Calculators are estimates and do not replace your utility's contract or bill. Advertisements are separate from the energy data and are not endorsements.
