What does renewable electricity share mean?
Understand the denominator, observation hour and source categories behind wattya’s renewable percentage.
What wattya counts
The reported mix combines positive generation observations for the selected hour. Our “from nature” value adds wind, solar and hydro within that mix. It is a defined subset, not a claim to include every renewable technology.
Why the denominator matters
A share describes composition, not total output. In an illustrative example, 10 GW of wind out of 20 GW is 50%; 10 GW out of 40 GW is 25%. Wind output is unchanged even though the percentage falls.
What this cannot tell you
The mix does not certify the origin of your household’s electricity. It does not include a consumption-based treatment of every import, and it is not a carbon-intensity calculation. Compare grids at the same observation hour.
