A LITTLE ENERGY KNOW-HOW

How to read an electricity flow map

Read import and export arrows without confusing schematic links with physical transmission lines.

Start with the report time

Choose a grid, then compare demand, generation and interchange at their stated timestamps. wattya’s transfer replay and power bubbles may refer to different observations.

What an arrow means here

A transfer arrow shows a reported direction between two operators. Its thickness represents the reported hourly average quantity. Moving dots illustrate direction; they do not measure travel speed or trace the route of a particular electron.

Why the numbers may not add up

The map covers selected reported links, not every connection. Counterparties can report different values. We use one reporting side for each pair and hour, and show the operator’s total net interchange separately.
